NKBN: Bear Suit AND A GIVEAWAY!!!

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great designs by budding designers on Ravelry.

(CONTEST NOW CLOSED)

Picture yourself at a baby shower and your (impeccably, of course) wrapped gift is presented upon the expectant mother's lap.   You are giddy with anticipation.  And when you see her reaction and hear the purrs of everyone in the room, you know that every little stitch was worth it.  This is what I think of when I see this amazing Bear Suit bunting.   Don't you agree???

This is an exciting post, dear knitters, as this week's Not Knit by Nat designer extraordinaire, Katie Hanken, has generously offered to give away a free copy of her amazing pattern!   Leave a comment below before next Thursday, August 9th at midnight.  I will randomly select a winner and announce it on next Friday's NKBN.
Contest is closed.

Good luck everyone!!

NKBN: Snowflake Fingerless Mittens

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great designs by budding designers on Ravelry.

I don't know what it is about this pattern and these pics, but I find them completely captivating.    Besides Unnur Eva's striking pose, these mitts are just riveting.   I think the touch of silvery/grey in the colourwork and just the right amount of halo in the yarn make this knit irresistable.   Even in this 10,000 degree summer we're having!

(along with her other amazing designs!)

NKBN: Ruffle Brim Sun Hat

I have had a long fascination with crafting out of recylced materials.  I'm an avid reader of Cindy's blog My Recylced Bags and always find her ideas inspiring.  Check out Cindy's tutorials on making PLARN, TARN and other cool eco friendly techniques.

I came across Rachel's Ruffle Brim Sun Hat made from plarn and I was instantly impressed. This is by far the prettiest creation I have ever seen using plarn.   Rachel has included a link to wear to buy plarn, or you can make your own using Cindy's technique with old plastic bags.   Plastic bags people!  And you know what that means?  Step 1: Place stylish waterproof hat on head.  Step 2:  Throw self on floatie raft into lake   Step 3:  Get kids to swim out to you periodically with a cold drink.   Splashes?  Don't matter.   Your hat is waterproof and you look cool!  Done.    You are a smartie pants Rachel!  Great design!

NKBN: Summer Lattice Shawl

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great designs by budding designers on Ravelry.

This week we have a great warm weather shawl by Linda Palmese (rav ID LDearie).   I think I am drawn to this piece as I secretly yearn to be better at crochet.   Those scalloped edges look pretty darn perfect to me.   This is a great, versatile piece that can be worn so many different ways (how about made with a drapey bamboo/silk blend and wrapped around the waist as a little beach sarong?!).  And I can just imagine it being completely addictive to hook!

NKBN: Little Loafers Baby Slippers

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great designs by budding designers on Ravelry.

Ok.  So, I admit it.  I was OBSESSED with little baby slippers when I was pregnant.   I scoured through the patterns on Rav looking for the perfect, cutest footwear.  I dunno.  It's something about tiny baby feet I guess.   I was drawn to the ones that had just the right amount of structure to make it look more like a little shoe and less of a slipper.  Melanie's pattern is perfect.  I'm almost tempted to have another baby just so that I can make these.   (....I said ALMOST!!!!!!)

NKBN: Stole of the Seas

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great designs by budding designers on Ravelry.

I look at Melanie's pictures of her Stole of the Seas pattern and I want to run, not walk, to my LYS and pick up a beautiful, vibrant hank of silk yarn and lock myself in my home and knit this until my fingers have blisters.   Seriously.  I'm that nuts about this pattern.
