NKBN: Go-Girl Knitting Needles

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

I came across something really cool last week on Rav and I had to share with you all.   Almost all of you will look at this adorable rug and say "ooh! I want to knit that!".

Those giant stitches are awesome.   My mind is seriously racing right now on how many places in my house I can cover with these rugs.  And I need a basket made of this giant stitch.   And a foot stool.   And can I make a vase out of this stitch?  And, and, and, and........

Now as cool as that rug is, what about knitting an entire lap blanket in 2 HOURS.    Even me, with my blanket knitting ADD, would commit to that!   That is speedy!

But how does one make such a giant, speedy stitch you ask?   Well, with GIANT knitting needles, naturally!  And when I say GIANT, I mean GIANT!

Tammy from Go-Girl Knitting has designed this amazing line of GIANT knitting needles.   They come in 2 lengths, the GIANT for knitting blankets, rugs, etc and BABY GIANTS for scarves and smaller projects.  And you can customize the topper to the colour of your choice.

Is this not the perfect gift for the knitter who has everything?  Heck, for any knitter, really!   I want them just to display in my knitting nook!

Check out Tammy's collection of needles and project ideas at www.gogirlknitting.com and be as amazed as I was!

NKBN: Child Crocodile Stitch Skirt

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

If you've been reading for a while, you've heard me lament about my lacklustre crochet skills.   I get by - barely.   Seeing Jenny's Crocodile Stitch Skirt pattern sums up all the reasons why I want to be a better crocheter!   Great pattern! Any little girly girl would LOVE to wear this!

NKBN: Metallic Crochet Bangle Bracelet

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

I have to admit that I like the idea of knitted or crocheted jewellery, yet the pieces that look overtly crafty I wonder if I actually could ever really wear it.  Or, more accurately, if my non-yarny friends would wear it.   I typically strive for a look a little more subtle than, "Hey look at me and my giant hand knit necklace I made last night".  But surprisingly the thing that draws me to Julia's Metallic Crochet Bangle is that it is undeniably a handmade piece.    It looks crocheted and it looks great!   This would be a really cool addition to any hipster outfit that I, along with my friends, would wear!

Is there anything better than an all over Cabled Sweater?  Yes.   An all over Cabled Sweater in Wee Baby size.  With wooden buttons.  With a matching hat.  Great pattern Lisa!

NKBN: Crochet Love Hearts

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

One of my daughter's favourite fall time books is the "Plumply, Dumply, Pumpkin" by Mary Serfozo and I can't get those words out of my head when I look at Esther's little hearts.   They are perfectly, plumply, dumply little hearts!

How many can you whip up before Valentine's?

NKBN: Valentine Fruit Cozy

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

Happy February 1st!    The month of LOVE begins, and although I'm quite sure very few of you have thought about your sweetheart's gift yet, I'm here with a little handmade inspiration.  While I don't buy into the mass commercialization of the holiday, I am all about making people feel loved.   And if you pop one of Laura's adorable Valentine Fruit Cozy  in front of someone special there will be no question of your emotions.   I think it's a safe bet that these trump roses or a box of chocolates.   Although putting this cozy around some chocolate might trump the orange.   Just sayin'.

Love is Handmade.

NKBN: Banana Rama Wrap

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

I know we have all bought yarn on a whim.   The impulsive purchase of something you've never knit with in a colour you just HAD to have.    That's what compelled me to buy some banana silk yarn in a burgundy colourway.  Yarn made from BANANA!  I just had to try it.  After swatching a few "ugly" ideas, I crocheted an open work cowl and eagerly tried it on and looked in the mirror.  The circular knit piled round my face in a Bordeaux coloured fuzz reminded me faintly of something but I couldn't quite figure it out until Ella walked by me and said "Whoa! Mama.  You look like you have a beard!".  And then it hit me. I looked like Captain Redbeard.   It's banished to the bottom of the reject pile.  I can't even bring myself to take a photo of it to show you.    It's that hideous.

So that brings me to this week's NKBN knitter Lara who designed something out of banana fibre yarn that looks nothing like any sort of facial hair.   Her wrap is boho-chic beautiful!
