NKBN: Animal Tracks Dishcloth

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

In keeping with the cottage theme because it's COTTAGE SEASON!!!!, Anna has designed a great set of animal tracks dishcloths.   I’m planning to buy a stash of earth toned cotton chenille to keep up north with these patterns and whip them up throughout the summer.    A great back burner project.    What are you summer knitting plans?

NKBN: Moose Chart

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

Trekking through the woods is quickly becoming our favourite past time up at the cottage.  It’s not an intense or long hike by any means, but it’s perfect for the kids to feel “enchanted” and juuuuuust long enough that mama starts to think “are we going the right way??”.    With the flood levels high this spring season in Ontario cottage land, our usual trickle of a creek was a full fledged spring that involved balancing across some fallen trees to get across.    You can see my fearless explorer in the corner there leading the way.    It is a moment I won’t soon forget.  I also won’t forget the piles of moose droppings along the path.   One which was nearly steaming in front of our very eyes.  I don’t have to be a professional trail blazer to know that a big moose was very close by!  Deer and turkeys are plentiful in our area, but a moose is quite extraordinary!

To commemorate our elusive moose encounter, this week’s NKBN creation is a smart little Moose Chart by Eveline.  Maybe I should knit up some moose trail markers for our next walk??!!

(Be sure to check out her crochet Kaleidocycle too.   Very cool stuff)

NKBN: Sunday Best Dress

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

Working on a trade desk, there are no less than 3 separate news stations on at any given time.   It's hard to be surrounded by the sad news of Boston all day long with acts of senseless violence on a seemingly unending loop, but I try to remind myself of the unbelievable amount of good people out there and the strength of the human spirit.   After seeing the explosions now countless times, I focus on the people instantly running right into the cloud of smoke trying to help. A formidable display of bravery and brotherly love.

It seems fickle to be writing a knitting post in light of this grave situation unfolding in front of me, but Kristen's post this week struck a chord with me.   For us needle crafters, knitting and crocheting brings us some calm and peace.    Jenny's pattern is especially fitting.    Crocheting a pristine Sunday Best Dress might just be what the doctor ordered.

NKBN: a glimpse of Spring

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

It’s a beautiful day today…for the middle of February!   Over the past couple of days Toronto has had two consecutive winter storm warnings - it's April people!  But despite Mother Nature having a real bad case of PMS this month, I am still hopeful that we will actually see spring like conditions soon!    Willow’s A Glimpse of Spring Hat is the perfect knit for this erratic time of year.

NKBN: RED-y for Spring!

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

I’m usually not drawn to a lot of red, but inexplicably I bought a bright red hank of yarn this past weekend.   I’ve got no plans for it yet, but just holding the bright crimson put me in a better mood.    Yaya’s name of her chic cowl sums up my sentiments exactly.  I am "RED-y for Spring"…bring it on!

NKBN: Miniscule Shawlette

A weekly feature on the blog, NOT Knit by Nat highlights great patterns by budding designers on Ravelry

I want to share with you Pure Craft Miniscule Shawlette, which might actually be the most perfect spring time shawl I have ever seen!    Picture it.   White long sleeve tshirt, jeans, nude suede wedges, aviator glasses, hair in a loose bun and this Shawlette casually thrown on.   Told ya.  Perfect accessory.
